Precalculus 1 Spring 2021

Overview

This course was a unique experience since it was a University College course. this means it was a much smaller class size, taught later in the day, and the students were usually older than average. Overall, I felt like this gave me more time to help students when they struggled.

Course Materials

Unlike, with the typical precalculus course this course does not have separate lecture and recitation classes, instead it is taught for 2 hours on 2 days. Due to this what I choose to do was to spread the recitation time throughout the lectures instead of being once a week. To do this I built in several examples to the lecture notes and gave more class time for students to work on these. This allowed the students to try the problems soon after learning the material.

Chapter 2 Lecture Notes

For this course I was responsible for all course materials. I chose to make and posted lecture notes and recorded lectures. However, since there was not a specific recitation time, I did not make any handouts. I was also responsible for writing all exams including the final exam.

Final Exam

If I were to teach another course such as this one again, I think I would make handout and choose to spend the last 40 minutes of each day as a separate recitation as I think this would be better for the students.
